In early 2018, ahead of Google’s annual I/O developers conference, Google decided to rebrand its research division as Google AI. Formerly known as Google Research, Google AI was created as Google’s umbrella brand to help unify efforts in artificial intelligence and designed to give global teams, projects, and cross-company efforts more cohesion. With a new mission statement, “Google AI is focused on bringing the benefits of AI to everyone” Google’s rebrand and design system needed to reflect its commitment to AI research and development and integrating AI into various services. Working in collaboration with a team of producers, directors, designers, and animators, we created extensive brand guidelines for Google AI that included: logo and icon usages, brand elements, color palettes, typography, copy writing, illustration style, events, indoor and outdoor signage, team flags, animation, partnerships, digital marketing and over 120 downloadable assets.
